The result draws on the hardy, sun-tolerant Hydrangea paniculata lineage — a group already prized by gardeners for its resilience and low-maintenance needs. Groundbreaker inherits those traits while offering an entirely new form.

Unlike traditional hydrangeas that grow upward, Groundbreaker spreads sideways. Mature plants reach just 12 to 16 inches tall but extend 24 to 32 inches wide, forming dense, branched mounds that knit together when planted in groups.
